Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS) is offering two new Bachelor of Arts programs: Airline & Airport Management, and International Trade & Operations Management, to meet the increasing demand for human resources in the aviation and logistics industries. These new programs are the partnership between MDIS and Teesside University and University of Plymouth in the UK. The degrees will be the same as that awarded to the full-time students at the University main campus in the UK. The commencement dates will be in October 2019.
In the integration economy as well as industry 4.0, the demand for human resources generally is increasing, especially in the fields of aviation, international trade management and logistics.
Bachelor of Arts, Airline and Airport Management (Top-up) will be awarded by Teesside University, UK, which is a leading university with an international reputation for academic excellence that provides an outstanding student and learning experience underpinned by research, enterprise and the profession. The program provides students a broad understanding of national and international developments and contemporary issues in aviation with specific reference to enterprise innovation and disaster management. Students also increase understanding of organization development and growth within a competitive business environment. Therefore, students could progress into career including Customer Account Managers, Communicators and Procurement Specialists, Terminal Management, or Immigration and Customs.
Meanwhile, Bachelor of Arts, International Trade and Operations Management (Top-up) will be awarded by the University of Plymouth, UK, a public university with 150 years of history and twice winner of prestigious Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education. The program will help students develop an appreciation of the global marketplace in which business operate and the implications of this for business decisions and operational culture, as well as promote an in-depth knowledge and understanding of international trade and operations management. After graduating, students can pursue career including Global Distribution Manager, Import Compliance Specialist, International Economist, or International Trade Manager.
Ignatius Teo, MDIS Business School’s Head says: “The two bachelor programs are designed to help students from many countries, including Vietnam, reach the new heights. Both will provide students with exciting and important competitive advantages in an international workplace and give them enhanced career opportunities in aviation and logistics industries, and business administration. In order to look for new growth drivers in the years ahead, Vietnam needs to propose many solutions, in which, high-level management workforce is among the key factors.”
According to the national aviation development plan until 2020, with the vision of 2030, Vietnam will become one of the four largest markets in the ASEAN in terms of passengers by 2030 and is expected to reach an average of 16% annually by 2020 and 8% in the next ten years. At the current stage, Vietnam’s aviation market is forecast to grow the 5th fastest in the world in terms of international passengers and cargo. In order to catch up with this strong growth, the Vietnamese government has approved a plan for a total of 26 airports, including those already in operation, at a cost of US$10.5 billion, and other 11 projects are underway, of which 7 projects will be completed in the next 3 years. Therefore, the skilled workforce will have a very high demand with the forecast of Vietnam’s aviation industry. This group of aviation workforce needs not only the specialized knowledge of the industry in the Vietnamese market but also other practical knowledge and skills to serve the international market.
Furthermore, Vietnam is an economy with a high degree of openness, reflected in the high growth of import and export in recent years, and one of the countries participating and negotiating many new generation FTAs. Through the steady growth of the Vietnamese economy in recent years, small and medium enterprises, large enterprises, joint ventures; or foreign-invested enterprises have high demand for human resources in the fields of international trade and operations management.
