Kim’s Eye & Dasom Polyclinic opens in Vietnam

Kim’s Eye Hospital of Konyang University’s College of Medical Science announced the opening of “Kim’s Eye & Dasom Polyclinic” in Vietnam on April 13th to support the development of Vietnam’s medical sector. The opening event was joined by the presence Dr. Kim Hisoo, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kim’s Eye Hospital, Kim Yonglan, the director of Kim’s Eye Hospital, and Dr. Nguyen Quoc Anh, Chief of Ocular Trauma at Vietnam National Institute of Ophthalmology.

Kim’s Eye Hospital, the largest and the most well-known ophthalmologic hospital in Korea,  was established in 1962 by Dr. Kim Hisoo, the founder of Konyang University. Kim’s Eye Hospital has since accumulated outpatients at 16 million.

Kim’s Eye Hospital has a strong understanding and interest in the medical condition of the Southeast Asia region through its decade-long medical volunteer work in Cambodia and training of numerous doctors from Cambodia, Philippines, China, Mongolia, etc. Taking note of the enormous growth of the Vietnamese medical sector, Kim’s Eye Hospital went through a long preparation period with four years of preliminary research.

The Vietnamese government is also actively calling for cooperation with Korea’s medical sector. Director of Kim’s Eye & Dasom Polyclinic is Doctorate-Doctor Kim Sungjoo, who has obtained Vietnam’s local doctor’s license and will personally diagnose and treat the patients. The clinical departments include ophthalmology, surgery, orthopedics, plastics, etc. and Korean patients as well as Vietnamese locals and foreigners living in Vietnam can be covered as Director Kim Sungjoo, who can speak English and Japanese, a medical staff that can speak four languages, and Vietnamese interpreters are situated.

Director Kim Sungjoo said, “As Vietnam’s medical sector is expected to  continuously expand, we will seek to mutually grow Kim’s Eye & Dasom Polyclinic. By participating in Vietnam Ophthalmological Society’s activities and numerous seminars, and engaging in medical volunteer works with Vietnamese doctors, etc. I had the opportunity to feel the passion of young Vietnamese doctors. Based on this close relationship with the Vietnamese medical industry, our goal is to open at least three hospitals within 10 years to grow with talented young doctors.”

Kim’s Eye Hospital focused on the growth potential of Vietnam’s medical industry opened the Polyclinic to contribute to the industry. It will share its own medical technology as well as support the development of Vietnam’s medical culture and system.

In particular, Kim’s Eye & Dasom Polyclinic will expand training opportunities of Vietnamese doctors in Kim’s Eye Hospital, establish cooperation systems with Vietnamese hospitals, localize the medical education program of Kim’s Eye Hospital, establish an advanced treatment system and support the growth of ophthalmological fields that is underdeveloped in Vietnam.

The first step would be to train Vietnamese doctors including the Chief of Ocular Trauma at Vietnam National Institute of Ophthalmology (VNIO) following the first Vietnamese doctor trained in Kim’s Eye Hospital in 2015 and the MOU with VNIO.

Kim’s Eye & Dasom Polyclinic has also established DIO (Diagnostic Imaging for Ophthalmology), a system to transfer image data of diseases that are difficult to diagnose and treat in Vietnam to Kim’s Eye Hospital in Korea for support in diagnosis and treatment plans. The system enables the Polyclinic to provide the same high quality medical services as Korea to the local people in Vietnam with professional medical consulting of the DIO Committee.
