HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam – With the Fourth Industrial Revolution, disruption is an inescapable and growing challenge for all industries. In a nutshell, the Fourth Industrial Revolution refers to how technologies like artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles and the internet of things are merging with humans’ physical lives. Think of voice-activated assistants, facial ID recognition or digital health-care sensors. Innovations in artificial intelligence (AI) application such as data analytics, machine learning, chatbots and facial recognition have not only been utilised for diagnosis but also for contact tracing and vaccine development. Such technologies had not only aided the control of the COVID-19 pandemic, but also helped to curb its worst effects. These technological changes are drastically altering how individuals, companies and governments operate, ultimately leading to a societal transformation similar to previous industrial revolutions.

There are four main components of the industry which are Cyber-Physical Systems, Internet of Things, Smart Factory, and Internet of Services. Despite uncertainties of the global economy, the demand for significant upskilling of the workforce in the industries remain positive and to support the growing demand of skilled-based resources, MDIS leads the way to be the first private education institute to introduce a new programme – Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Robotics Technology. The programme covers all the main components of industry revolution. Students will be trained on high level robotics, including mobile and humanoid automation, and also focus on the electronics and hardware that support industrial and service robotics is complemented by the hands-on approach.

To enhance student learning experience, MDIS has invested in a new Smart Manufacturing system for students to have the aforementioned hands-on approach and practical to prepare them for the industry. This manufacturing system is fully automated with an integrated industrial grade robot arm by Omron. The system can communicate with user in real time where user will be able to control the system remotely as well as input recommendation to the system. With this, students will be able to design and innovate their own systems and are job ready upon graduation.
